The Ontario Base Map (OBM) topographical dataset provides a great base from which to build cartographic maps, Land Terrain Data and Mapping Analysis for modeling, planning and development. Various Topographic and GIS features / attributes are contained in the newly updated 2018 Ontario Base Map / OBM data set and 2018 Addressed Streets.

Features cover approximately 95% of Ontario (information is limited in far northern regions of Ontario). Depending on file size, different coverage's are available as files for the whole province, municipalities or custom regional mosaics. The dataset is a medium scale mapping product designed to cover the province at scales of 1:10 000 southern areas and 1:20 000 in northern remote areas. The content of the OBM include the geographical references of the topographic, cultural and cadastral features of Ontario.

There is coverage for a variety of different features / themes as displayed on the OBM, including airports, buildings, contour lines, elevation spot heights, hydrography, lakes, watercourses, hypsography, drainage, municipal boundaries, parks, mines, pits / quarries, addressed streets, railways, utility lines, vegetation, parks, conservation areas, wetlands, first nation / aboriginal lands and the township boundaries as originally surveyed by the Crown.

Typical applications for this type of dataset include custom mapping, transportation, land and site development, utility grid and transmission line planning, civil engineering, municipal board applications, environmental assessments, mining, prospecting, GPS, forestry management, terrain modeling and graphical analysis.

Refer to the view variable list for a full description of layers and features. Features are collected according to pre-defined geo-processing rule and guidelines. Features are identified by utilizing the National Standards for Feature Classification and Identification produced by the provincial and federal governments.

The dataset topological structure comprises of points, vector lines, polygons and text. The positional accuracy of the OBM dataset is 0.2 metre.  Vertical datum is derived from mean sea level, as established by the Geodetic Survey Division, Energy, Mines and Resources Canada.  OBM data is delivered as seamless geography for the whole province or custom mosaics.

3D Tourist Maps are geographically accurate, high resolution, vector / object oriented maps, illustrated as a “Bird-Eye” / “Oblique Perspective” of select cities. These simplified animated renderings of tourist areas are valuable for providing tourists with simple, clean, easy navigation to city attractions, historical sights, hotels, restaurants, shopping, landmarks, transportation routes, parks and recreational activities, while presenting the city in a safe and tourist friendly manner.

Created by GIS technicians and graphic artists at Geografx, illustrations are prepared in fine detail at a scale of 1:500 feet. Simplified 3D tourist maps reduce dense municipal information enabling users to easily identify major landmark buildings and other points of interest. Artwork is derived from geographically referenced topography, aerial imagery and perspective renderings of topographic features and points of interest. Clients use this type of mapping for media, brochure, print and billboards to promote city / municipal tourism, new real estate developments, local area / neighbourhood maps, boat cruises, conference, trade show, event marketing and marathons.

3D Tourist Maps are available in scalable vector and high resolution image formats, provided in CMYK or RGB output, suitable for brochure size to billboard print. Current coverage includes Miami South Beach, Toronto, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Blue Mountain, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach and Calgary.  Cities under development include Vancouver, Winnipeg, Chicago, Ottawa and Halifax.
